Your day begins on the western slope—a mix of flowing singletrack, wide doubletrack, and fast mountain-bike lines that warm up the legs and set your pace.
Expect a true Blue Ridge mountain experience, with long stretches of forested single-track, rolling fire roads, and ridgeline sections that open to wide-angle views of the Shenandoah Valley.
You’ll descend back toward the resort, transitioning from quiet wooded trails onto wide mountain roads before crossing the finish at the base area.

Yes. All distances must be completed within 10 hours to officially finish the challenge and earn your UltraTrax patch and medal (Level 3 and 4 only). This window is designed to push you, but still give walkers of all abilities enough time to complete the course safely.
Not at all. UltraTrax is built for all levels of athletic ability. You choose your distance and whether to level up with a weighted vest or ruck.
Yes- check our custom training plans HERE.
Wear clothing you’re comfortable sweating in. Light, breathable layers, moisture-wicking socks, and a hat or sun protection. Choose trail shoes or road shoes you’ve already tested on longer walks. If conditions are wet or muddy, trail shoes with grip are ideal.
UltraTrax is designed as a walking event, but you won’t be disqualified for running! We just ask that you follow approporatie trail etiquette and only pass when it’s safe and there’s plenty of room. If the trail narrows to single-track or feels crowded, we ask that you slow to a walk and stay in line until it opens up again.
Your safety comes first. If you need to stop, UltraTrax volunteers and staff will help guide you back to the base area or to the nearest aid station.
The route will be clearly marked with signage, arrows, bright tape, and volunteers will be stationed at key intersections and aid points.
Because UltraTrax requires significant planning, staffing, and coordination with our resort / course partners, registrations are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend, you may transfer your registration to a future event date for a small fee.
Yes! We will only reschedule an event if the weather appears dangerous to our participants.
We love dogs, but unfortunately they are not allowed at our events.
We have three ruck categories: 10, 20, 35 pounds. Any level completed with extra weight qualifies for a bonus giveaway. We weigh packs/vests the morning of the event. All items count toward the total weight except for perishables like water and snacks.
This course is a little different than our usual 7 mile lap. For all levels, you start and finish at different spots. If you look at AllTrails, you'll see a smaller loop. If you're doing the 28 mile course, for example, you'll complete that loop 3.5 times in a counterclockwise direction before heading toward the Ridge Trail to the finish line. The elevation min to max on the smaller loop is about 500 feet and the trail toward the Ridge line is about 600 feet.
There will be complimentary shuttles to get you to the start, with parking near the finish line.
